MONROE — Six Green County area youth were selected to receive scholarships through the annual Dairy Youth Recognition Auction Scholarship program.
The scholarships are funded through proceeds from the Green County Dairy Youth Recognition Auction held in conjunction with the Cheese Auction conducted by the Foreign Type Cheesemakers Association at the fair. Because the Green County Fair was unable to be held, this year’s recipients are being recognized here.
Scholarships were awarded on information provided by the applicant that included their involvement in the dairy project, leadership skills they gained in 4-H and FFA and future career goals. An applicant must be a senior in high school or enrolled in secondary education to be eligible to apply for this scholarship that is an active Green County dairy project member in 4-H or FFA. The scholarships do not require that youth go into a dairy related career.
A total of $6,350 was awarded by the Dairy Youth Auction Committee. Receiving Dairy Youth Scholarships were:
Sarah Blumer, daughter of Ronald and Jennifer Blumer, is a graduate of Monticello High School. She participated in showing dairy and dairy judging through her involvement in FFA, Jr. Holsteins, Wisconsin Ayrshire Breeders Association, and Wisconsin Guernsey Breeder’s Association. Sarah plans to attend Oklahoma State University majoring in international business and business sustainability.
Miah Brokopp, daughter of Allen and Lori Brokopp, is a graduate of Monticello High School. She participated in showing dairy, dairy judging, soils judging, and speaking contests through her involvement in FFA. Miah plans to major in nursing through the Blackhawk Technical College in Janesville.
Emily Makos, daughter of Eric and Jody Makos, is a graduate of Juda High School. She participated in dairy judging and showing dairy through 4-H, FFA, Junior Jersey Association, and Jr. Holsteins. Emily plans to study occupational therapy at Concordia University, Mequon.
Averey Marean, daughter of Mike and Kelly Marean, is a graduate of Albany High School. She participated in dairy judging and showing dairy through 4-H, FFA, Milking Shorthorn Association, Guernsey Association and Jr Holsteins. Averey plans on attending the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater majoring in business administration.
Colby Steiner, son of Jeremy and Amy Steiner is a graduate of Monroe High School. He participated in showing dairy, dairy judging, and dairy conferences, through his involvement in 4-H, FFA, and Jr. Holstein Breeders. Colby has already started coursework through ag mechanics at Sloan’s Implement and plans to continue his coursework through MATC in the John Deere program and return home to help run the family farm.
Eva Van Dyk, daughter of Chris and Jolene Van Dyk, is a graduate of Monroe High School. She participated in dairy judging and showing dairy through her involvement in 4-H, FFA, and Junior Holsteins. Eva plans to attend Oklahoma State University and major in agribusiness. Over $52,225 in scholarships has been awarded to Green County Youth through this auction since 2004.
