MONROE — When it comes to healthy living, nothing beats the Y. And this year the local YMCA is celebrating its new facility and a name change — it is now known as Colony Brands Green County Family YMCA, in recognition of a transformational gift from Colony Brands that helped make the long-awaited expansion possible.
From the futuristic spin room, to the walking track with a view of Green County, the YMCA’s enhanced facility includes an additional 60,000 square feet of program space. According to Laci Gilbertson, director of healthy living, the facility offers the following programs and amenities to start residents on the road to a healthier 2026:
● Free Group Fitness Classes for Members
● 50 Group Fitness Classes offered a week. Classes range in intensity and include a range from Yoga to Bootcamp
● FOREVERWELL Programming (Active Older Adults 55+)
● Sauna (open when pool is open)
● Healthy Living Kitchen including free or paid classes (program specific)
● Free fitness orientations — allows members to learn the machines and ask questions
● Four fitness studios, two of which include virtual on-demand (members can take a class at their convenience, if a live class doesn’t work for them)
● Power House - Squat Racks, Plate loaded machines, Olympic benches, Free Weights, functional trainers
● Healthy Living Center includes brand new Matrix Cardio equipment (treadmills, upright bikes, recumbent bikes, elliptical, climb mills, ARC trainers) in addition to a new Matrix Strength Circuit.
● Turf for functional training, sleds, rowers, functional trainers
● Indoor walking track (10 laps equals a mile)
● Partner with SSM Health for the Healthy Living Referral Program, in which individuals can get referred to the Y after they complete Physical Therapy.
