NEW GLARUS — The 2024 World Euchre Championship is set to take place May 18-19 at the New Glarus Fest Haus with over 500 Euchre enthusiasts arriving from all over the United States and Canada.
Shelly Johnson, president of New Glarus Cares, which is organizing the event, emphasized the community-centric nature of the tournament.
“This isn’t just about cards; it’s about community,” Johnson said. “The funds raised over the weekend significantly contribute to building a new inclusive playground in our small town, benefiting our community.”
Sponsored by Bicycle Cards, New Glarus Brewing Company, Jack Link’s, Decatur Dairy, and New Glarus Fest Haus, the tournament has attracted players from far and wide, injecting vibrancy into New Glarus’ streets and bolstering the local economy.
“This is just the second year of doing this and it is amazing how many people want to participate,” Johnson said.
While the Sunday doubles tournament is sold out, seats are still available for the singles tournament on Saturday, May 18. Participants from various skill levels will compete for the World Euchre Championship belt. Spectators are welcome to join the festivities, which includes live music on Saturday night, traditional Swiss performances, delicious food from local vendors and a small open-air market.
