Kris Wisnefske, Monroe, is a participant in the Emerge Wisconsin 2009 program. Emerge is a political leadership training program for Democratic women in Wisconsin.
The mission of the Emerge program is to identify, educate, and inspire Democratic women who want to pursue a career in politics at the local and state level in Wisconsin. Emerge is dedicated to making a long-term investment in these future leaders by developing their political and media skills; expanding their knowledge of local issues; and connecting them with mentors.
Components of the program include campaign strategy, fundraising, public speaking, field work, networking, labor, endorsements, media skills, messaging, and ethics in politics. Participants meet one weekend a month for six months and attend the annual state Democrat convention to be held in Green Bay this year. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet women who hold elected office in Wisconsin.
Wisnefske ran for the 80th Assembly seat in the 2008 election. Although unsuccessful in that race, she remains committed to the political process. She continues to serve as an advocate for change in healthcare. Other issues of interest include school funding, campaign finance reform and climate change.
"As a nurse I understand the need that our families have for economic security and access to quality healthcare," she said.
Wisnefske currently serves as the chairman of the Wisconsin Parish Nurse Coalition, a special interest group of the Wisconsin Nurses Association whose mission is to promote the professional development of parish nursing. She is current president of the Madison District Nurses Association.
