MONROE - Winners of the Monroe Woman's Club poetry and short story contest who were present at the May Spring Social were presented certificates. The contest is open to all grade levels in the Monroe school district.
The winners in poetry, category two, were: In first place was Gavin Eckerman, Northside Elementary School, for "Seasons"; in second place was Ryan Mathiason, Parkside Elementary School, for "Spring"; and in third place was Jordyn Williams-McNett, Northside, for "Christmas."
Short stories had awards in three categories. In category one, all three winners were from St. Victor School. In first place was Avery Hertzke for "Becoming a Cheesemaker," second place was Aridni Acosta for "Pick a Dog" and third place was Brent Weeden for "Grandpa's Shop."
In category two, first place went to Dylan Lewis, St. Victor, for "The Long Ball"; second place went to Kristina Foley, St. Victor, for "Drive at the Age of Nine"; and third place went to Chyler Blackburn, Parkside, for "The Snowstorm."
In category three, first place went to Kaia Pulcine, Monroe Middle School, for "The Dreamer, A Dream Can Change Your Life," and second place went to Jordan Hay, MMS, for "Wild Horses."
