LCHGS

DARLINGTON — The Lafayette County Historical and Genealogy Society (LCHGS) Museum, 525 Main Street, Darlington, has several upcoming events and themes.

From Jan. 15 to March 14 there will be a Wedding Gown Show. The museum has a large collection of wedding gowns to display for “Valentine’s Season.” Enjoy beautiful textiles and see the changing styles of gowns from the 1800s to today. Ample parking, admission is free.

The quarterly membership meeting for LCHGS will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9. Board of Directors members will be present to update membership regarding activities and plans for the coming year. It will take place in the lower level meeting room of the museum.

Following the meeting, at 1:30 p.m. there will be a special presentation open to the public. “Haste to the Wedding,” Curator of the Wisconsin Historical Society, Tamara Funk, will present an hour-long program about the changing philosophies and customs of Euro-American courtship and weddings in the United States from the 18th to the 20th centuries. Funk is a textiles and costume expert.  A Q&A will follow the presentation.

Admission is free and refreshments will be served. The meeting room is accessible by ramp at the side entrance.  And visitors can enjoy the display of wedding gowns without stairs by using the stairway chair-lift.

The museum is open from 1-4 p.m. weekdays and by request. Call 608-776-8340 for additional access.
