WAUNAKEE - Hundreds of music students from numerous area schools will participate in a Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) sanctioned Solo and Ensemble Music Festival hosted by Monticello High School from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16. During the festival, which is free and open to the public, students will perform vocal and instrumental solos, duets, trios and small ensembles before an adjudicator.
WSMA music festivals annually attract thousands of students from middle, junior high and high schools throughout Wisconsin. The festival will draw students from a number of area schools, including Monticello Middle School, Albany Middle and High Schools, Argyle Middle and High Schools, Barneveld Middle and High Schools, Black Hawk Middle and High Schools, Juda Middle and High Schools and Pecatonica Middle and High Schools.
The primary purposes of WSMA music festivals are to:
Establish standards of quality for music literature.
Motivate students to prepare and perform to the best of their abilities.
Improve students' understanding of music literature and music concepts (performance with understanding).
Support improvement of school music programs through individual and group achievement.
Encourage exploration of diverse musical styles and ensemble combinations.
