NEW GLARUS - The Swiss Church Cemetery Committee is hosting two free walking tours of the historic Swiss Church Cemetery starting at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Swiss Historical Village cemetery, 612 7th Ave.

The 90-minute tour will begin with a brief look at the establishment of the Swiss Church and the earliest burials in the Pioneer Cemetery.

The tour will visit several grave sites where tour hosts will tell of early New Glarus residents such as pioneer women, a Swiss veteran from the time of Napoleon, a New Glarus native lost for 30 years, war veterans, immigrant mothers and a long-forgotten murder victim.

The tour has been researched and written by Bob Elmer, with Pioneer Cemetery research by Duane Freitag.

To register for the cemetery tour, contact the Swiss Church at 608-527-2119, kristina@swisschurch.org or www.facebook.com/events/1459729487617372.

A free-will donation will be accepted and all proceeds will go to support the maintenance of the cemetery. The event will occur rain or shine.
