MONROE — Monroe Arts Center has four new virtual art classes for adults kicking off in February and continuing through May.
Each class is a stand-alone experience in a different genre of art. On Feb. 16, Julia Calvert will conduct the class, “Make Your Own Polymer Clay Earrings.” Participants will use minimal supplies as the instructor demonstrates how to roll out a clay slab, layer different colors and shapes of clay, cut, bake, and assemble earrings. Attendees will leave the class with an understanding of these steps and the many different avenues available with this medium so that they can easily continue creating.
“Macramé Made Easy” will be held March 16 and taught by Adria Kaufman. Macramé was extremely popular in the 70s but it is clearly having a huge resurgence with the currently trending boho decor. In this class, participants will learn the basic macramé knots that can be used in various ways to create many different pieces. By the end of the class, attendees will use some of these knots to create a simple but beautiful wall hanging to add texture to their home.
On April 20, Kathy King will lead a class on “Spring Watercolor Landscapes.” King will demonstrate how to paint with watercolors while creating a fun, spring landscape painting. She will also share her tried and true tips and techniques.
Finally, on May 18, Madison mural artist, Sonya Sankaran will instruct the class on turning favorite images into large works of art. Participants will learn how to enlarge small images to the size of their choice, what materials are needed, how to match colors, and how to bring life into the painting. By the end of the class attendees will have a large landscape piece ready to be hung on the wall.
All classes begin at 7 p.m. and will take place virtually using the Zoom platform. Participants can register by phone at 608-325-5700, online, or by mail. Registration and forms can be found at monroeartscenter.com/classes. Registration forms can be mailed to MAC at PO Box 472, Monroe, WI 53566.
