Veterans Memorial Park to hold fundraiser

MONROE - The Green County Veterans Memorial Park Board will host a second-phase fundraising dinner/dance/auction at 5 p.m. April 29 at Turner Hall in Monroe. There will also be a silent auction throughout the evening. Dinner will be at 5 p.m., with a dance following with music by the Stateline Playboys.

Board members reported they were able to get the UH1 helicopter painted, refurbished and mounted in the park Dec. 2, due to people's donations of time and money.

The board will now focus on raising funds to construct a six-sided brick building that will display the "Tribute to Green County Veterans Wall" with the names of all Green County veterans, to honor the four generals from Green County and to recognize the contributions from many. It is intended to be a serene setting in which to honor veterans, along with the beauty of the park with the service flags, plaques, memorial brick walkway and benches, helicopter and tank.

Tickets are now available by calling Larry or Karen Ayres at 608-558-9198 or 608-558-9196; Ed Andreas at 608-420-1022 in Brodhead; Donna Douglas at 608-214-8566 or Alex Olson at 608-325-9665 in Monroe; or Bill and Jackie Hustad at 608-576-5117 or 608-576-3025 in New Glarus.
