MONROE — Over the last few years, the Green County Veterans Memorial Park Committee has been developing the park to honor all Green County veterans.
A recent improvement is the Hall of Honor, where the walls will be used to list all veterans from Green County. The committee has listed veterans up through the Civil War and are working forward. They are still taking names and are asking the public to provide names, especially ones of those who have served recently or are serving now.
The committee is raising funds to put a Star of Honor in the Hall of Honor building. Jim Kalscheur, of the Kalscheur Foundation, recently donated $5,000 toward the Star of Honor. They will be ordering more bronze war plaques when funds become available. The Star of Honor will recognize Green County generals and Green County KIAs. Donors will be recognized at the park.
Bricks can still be ordered in three sizes at prices of $100, $200 or $300. Contact Bill Hustad at wfhus1@tds.net with questions.
