BRODHEAD - Venturing Crew 1812 invited area youth and parents to join them for an evening of games, food, a campfire and Scouting.

Youth from Monroe, Juda and Brodhead met June 8 at the Brodhead Boy Scout Troop's campsite.

As well as participating in team building and trust activities, cooking and eating food, the youth outlined future goals for the crew. Venturing Crew is a Boy Scouts of America program for young adults who have completed eighth grade up to 21 years of age. Venturing Crew 1812 currently includes Monroe and Brodhead members but is open to anyone. The crew meets twice a month to decide what activities to do. Adults are there to provide guidance, but not to run the show.

Just a few recent and upcoming activities include, using an indoor climbing wall, snow tubing, Relay for Life, horseback riding, archery and a swimming party. Summer camp activities may include a canoe trip, pistol/rifle marksmanship, geocaching and caving. The crew intends to travel to Puerto Rico in 2011.
