This interesting photograph of students was taken in 1939 at the Valley View School. The students are sitting on a rather primitive teeter totter. The Valley View School was located on the east side of the road south of the creek which is south of N3787 Hiawatha Road. This school burned on the morning of Feb. 22, 1950. Teacher Robert Hendickson and the three-member school board purchased new desks and other equipment the following day in Freeport. Mr. Hendrickson taught the students in the gymnasium of the Green County Normal School for the rest of the school year. The school was never rebuilt as the consolidated Hiawatha School was built to open the following year.
