MADISON — The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) is asking for help in showing appreciation to veterans for their service and sacrifice by sending Valentine’s Day cards to veterans living in WDVA facilities.
“In three years, we’ve been able to spread so much happiness because of the outpouring of support and love you all have shown,” said Secretary James Bond. “Thousands of folks from across the state and nation have taken the time to participate, and I’m excited to continue this tradition again this year.”
Since beginning this program in 2023, WDVA has received over 80,000 Valentine’s Day cards for its members and veterans. This overwhelming response has allowed WDVA to bring joy to veterans homes in Chippewa Falls, King, and Union Grove, as well as to residents of its Veterans Housing and Recovery Program.
The valentines are hand-delivered by staff, including Secretary Bond, to the veterans, loved ones, and Gold Star families residing in the veterans facilities. To see pictures from last year’s visit of Secretary Bond at Union Grove delivering valentines, visit their album on Flickr.
Ensure that cards are mailed by January 31, so they have them in time to distribute to all facilities on February 14. WDVA kindly requests that valentines refrain from including candy, food, or snacks due to allergies or dietary restrictions.
