WHITEWATER — Courtney Haakenson, a Marketing major at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater from Evansville, is one of four Warhawks who earned notable honors and awards at the 2024 American Marketing Association (AMA) Regional Conference on Oct. 18 at Hyland Hall in Whitewater.
More than 450 attendees representing 31 schools and four countries were present at the conference. The event’s eight competitions included nearly 350 unique participants.
UW-Whitewater students accounted for more than 40 first-, second-, third- and fourth-place winners, and won seven of the eight competitions. Some of the highlights:
● Taylor Wojcinski, a marketing major from Franklin, won three sales competitions — the Henry Schein Sales Roleplay, the Victor Envelope Perfect Pitch, and the Cottingham & Butler Gatekeeper.
● Alana Lewis, a marketing major from Muskego who serves as UW-Whitewater’s AMA president, was a finalist in four events and the winner of the Country Door Marketing Strategy and the Enterprise Mobility Virtual Perfect Pitch competitions.
● Michael Van Offeren, a finance major from Rockton, Illinois, was a finalist in four events and the winner of the Gartner Virtual Sales Roleplay and Cottingham & Butler Gatekeeper competitions.
● Courtney Haakenson, a marketing major from Evansville, was a finalist in three events and the winner of the Country Door Marketing Strategy competition.
UW-Whitewater’s AMA chapter is led by Lewis, Gracie Hughes, a marketing major from West Bend, and Rafa Alvarez-Reyes, a marketing major from Milwaukee. The group is advised by Andy Dahl, an associate professor of marketing in the university’s College of Business and Economics.
The chapter earned the AMA International Chapter of the Year title at the International Collegiate Conference held in April 2024. It’s the 20th time that UW-Whitewater AMA has held or shared this title.
