BRODHEAD — There will be several events taking place over the next few months at Three Waters Reserve (TWR), N3941 Golf Course Road, Brodhead.

For additional information, to register or purchase tickets for any event, go to www.threewatersreserve.com.

TRAIL WALK: STARGAZING

Join TWR at the reserve from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27 for an evening away from light pollution and gazing up at the stars. They will have a telescope available for viewing the night sky. This event will be taking place on the upper green at the reserve. There will not be an actual trail walk, as it will be too dark to embark on that safely.

The weekly Friday Night Fish Fry will be going on from 5-9 p.m., and Chef John Marks will be crafting some special space-themed cocktails this evening. The stargazing is free, but any food and drink must be purchased separately from inside. If the weather is too dangerous or cloudy, cancellation will be made through email and social media posting. This event is free but pre-registration is helpful.

LUNCH & LEARN: DRAGONFLIES & DAMSELFLIES

Join Wisconsin Master Naturalist Bob Honig, from 12-1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3 for a presentation about dragonflies and damselflies. Both are important in terrestrial and aquatic food webs. In this Lunch and Learn, learn how to tell them apart by their features and behaviors, as well as finding out the answers to those burning questions: Can dragonflies prey on birds? What is the killer lip? And what backyard pond features will attract them?

Honig has been observing and studying nature for most of his life. He earned an M.S. degree in zoology/aquatic ecology, and he is a retired environmental consultant who has addressed issues including endangered species, wetlands, archaeology, recycling, and sustainability. He has been an active volunteer for conservation organizations for four decades in Texas and continues to do so in Wisconsin after moving in 2021, supporting community science and educational activities. Honig spends lots of time wildlife watching, particularly birds and dragonflies and damselflies, and helping in the garden at home.

After the Lunch and Learn, join Honig for an optional short walk to the TWR wetland to see if any are out and about. Dress for the weather and have appropriate footwear to go on the walk.

LUNCH & LEARN BIRD BANDING AT THE COLORED SANDS FOREST

Join TWR from 12-1 p.m. on Oct. 24 for food and a talk about the bird banding program at the Colored Sands Forest Preserve. Lee Johnson is an avid birder and conservationist. He began birding in 1943 and has seen over 4,000 species of birds throughout his lifetime. Join TWR for a Lunch and Learn about bird conservation and the work Johnson has done to establish a bird banding program at the Colored Sands Forest Preserve in Illinois. Tickets are available at www.threewatersreserve.com.

PAIRING NIGHTS: WINES AROUND THE WORLD

Join TWR for another offering in its Pairing Night Series. Take a journey around the world by indulging in wines from across the globe. Award-winning Chef John Marks will be preparing the perfect food samples to pair with each wine. An expert from Wines for Humanity will be joining in the fun to provide commentary and information about each carefully selected wine offering.

This tasting is a fundraiser for the Southern Wisconsin Land Conservancy. Proceeds from any bottle sold supports their mission of land conservation in Wisconsin.

Guests will receive a wine passport with information about the wines they will be enjoying, samples of six different wines around the world, carefully curated food samples to pair with each wine; the opportunity to order wine for home; or they can order from their full portfolio. Attendees must be 21 or older to attend.
