WHITEWATER - Two area students are involved in the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater production of "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street," a musical thriller that tells the tale of an exiled barber who returns home to London to seek revenge on the man who destroyed his life. With a little help from his downstairs neighbor, Mrs. Lovett, Todd gets revenge in his own unique and gruesome way.
The musical opens at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 23 and continues through Feb. 27.
Two local students helped stage the production: Makenzie Smith, Monroe, a senior theater major, performs in the ensemble, and Christopher James, Argyle, a senior general management and theater major, performs as Tobias Ragg.
The music and theater/dance departments are collaborating on this musical. Over winter break, the cast put in eight hours of rehearsal a day to learn the music. Once classes resumed, the cast began blocking the scenes and staging the play, putting in up to 20 hours a week.
