‘Tinker Tour’ plans stop at Argyle School Oct. 9
Community Brief

ARGYLE — Argyle Public School, Pecatonica School and Argyle Public Library will host the program “Tinker Tour” at 10 a.m. on Oct. 9 at the Argyle School, 14665 Wisconsin 78. This event is open to the public.

The Tinker Tour is a bus tour that began during the 2013-14 school year, with free speech champion and former Supreme Court plaintiff Mary Beth Tinker and student speech attorney Mike Hiestand traveling to high schools, colleges and conventions across the country to speak about the Tinker case and the state of free speech and civics awareness among America’s young people.

In 1965, Mary Beth used a simple black armband to voice her opposition to the Vietnam War. Now, Mary Beth inspires new generations to use the First Amendment to make a difference. And, she learns all the many ways that students are making their voices heard to do just that!

The tour kicked off on Constitution Day Sept. 17, 2013 on Independence Mall in Philadelphia and from there has gone on to visit hundreds of schools, universities and conferences across the country.
