'The Famer's Wife' will be Aug. 28

MONROE - "The Farmer's Wife," a program hosted by the Friends In Faith Ministry of the Monroe United Methodist Church, is set for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28 in the Fellowship Hall at Monroe United Methodist Church, 2227 4th St.

The program, given by area author Laurie Aaron Hird, will provide a look back at farm life in the early 1900s as told by the women and children who lived it and shared through the pages of "The Farmer's Wife" magazine, a popular publication of the day.

Hird is the author of two books, "The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt: Letters from 1920s Farm Wives and the 111 Blocks They Inspired" and "The Farmer's Wife Pony Club Sampler Quilt: Letters from the Lucky Pony Winners of 1915 and 90 Blocks That Tell Their Stories." She has also appeared on the popular PBS television series "Sewing With Nancy." Hird will display covers from her magazine collection as well as the two quilts featured in her books.
