Area schools and businesses honored and celebrated local veterans for Veterans Day on Nov. 11. Monroe High School and Abraham Lincoln Elementary each held programs. High school students heard an encouraging speech about finding direction and purpose from District Office Executive Assistant Chandra Deprez, a veteran herself. The elementary students, meanwhile, learned how to properly give a military salute thanks to the direction of guest speaker Paul Gregerson and volunteer helper, music teacher Heather Newton.
