MONROE - Summer fun for kids continues at the Monroe Public Library. Special Wacky Wednesday afternoon programs will run through July. All library programs and events are free, but registration is requested by calling the Youth Services Department at (608) 328-7010.

The Spotlight Players, a troupe of local teen thespians, will present a readers theater version of a favorite children's book, Tacky the Penguin by Helen Lester, at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, at the Monroe library. The audience will provide sound effects for the play, laugh through the silly skits, and be prompted to groan loudly at the really bad jokes included in the performance.

A special creative music opportunity will be offered July 22 when children's performer, Rich Baumann, comes to Monroe. Interested 7- to 15-year-old students are invited to join him at the "Sing with Rich" Idea Bounce where they will help him write an original song about Monroe. No musical experience is needed to participate.

The song will be performed by the young writers as part of Baumann's concert at 2 p.m. the same day. This is a slight change is the usual program time. The Baumann concert program is suggested for youngsters age 3 and up. Their siblings, parents and caregivers are also invited to attend the concert.
