MONROE/DARLINGTON - The 2014 TEAM Lafayette Campaign co-founder Michael Gorham announced an initiative by TEAM Lafayette to raise funds for first aid kits for the officers of the Monroe Police Department.
The initiative is a joint venture between the Monroe Police Department, TEAM Lafayette and North American Rescue. The first aid kits are equipped with a combat action tourniquet, 4-inch emergency trauma bandage, z-fold gauze, a chest seal and a pair of protective gloves.
The cost per kit is $41.98; to equip the entire Monroe Police Department, the cost would be about $1,200.
The kits are designed to assist police officers in the event of a shooting to provide medical treatment and have the potential to be used at other events such as vehicle crashes and other incidents involving traumatic injuries.

Similar kits were purchased for the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office a couple of years ago. The Lafayette County Sheriff's Office and the Monroe Police Department work cooperatively together. Monroe police officers will receive training in the use of the kits.
