MONROE - Monroe Swiss Singers will host the 44th Annual Swissfest, at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 7, in the Grand Hall at Turner Hall.

An afternoon of authentic Swiss folklore music and entertainment will be a part of Turner Hall's 2010 Swiss Heritage Series. In addition to the Monroe Swiss Singers, the lineup includes the Mannerchor New Glarus and the Jodlerklub New Glarus.

Alphorns, accordions, Swiss-coin rolling, Swiss flag-throwing and yodeling - all perennial favorites - also will again be part of the show.

Special performers this year include the Squeezebox Night Ensemble, a group of accordionists who meet every third Tuesday of the month in the Turner Hall Ratskeller for a jam session; and Gabe Jelle, a young yodeler who also sings with the Jodlerklub New Glarus and Greg Anderson Band.

General seating tickets are $7 in advance, available in Turner Hall's Ratskeller Restaurant through Saturday, Nov. 6; or $10 at the door. The ticket price includes both the show and a dance following the program played by the popular Greg Anderson Band. Grand Hall doors will open at 1:30 p.m. A special Swissfest menu will be featured in the Ratskeller Restaurant from 4 to 8 p.m.

The Turner Hall of Monroe is listed on the National and State Registers of Historic Places. Established in 1868, it is the only Turner (gymnast) Hall of Swiss origin still operating in the United States. Following the original structure's destruction by fire in 1936, the current building was designed by German architect, Max Hamisch, and opened in 1938.
