MONROE - Janette Hartman will speak on the 1832 journey of the Emma Rudolf family at 10 a.m. June 3 at the Green County Genealogical Society meeting in the second-floor meeting room of the Monroe Public Library.
The Rudolfs were immigrants from Switzerland who traveled through St. Louis up the Fever River area, finally making their way to New Glarus. Their experiences are similar to those of other immigrants.
Hartman is the former curator/administrator of the Iowa County Wisconsin Society Museum with an interest and knowledge of the early history of southwestern Wisconsin.
The event is free and open to the public. Call Sharon Mitchell at 815-868-2416 or Donna Kjendlie at 608-921-1537 with questions.
The GCGS Research Center, in the lower level of the Monroe Public Library, is available to the public for research. New summer hours for June through September are: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and the third Saturday of each month and 1 to 4 p.m. Fridays. The main holdings are on Green County, but both Rock and Lafayette counties are well represented along with several other counties, states, countries and ethnic groups. A large clipping collection of births, marriages and obituaries is available. Volunteers are on staff to help with research.
