Swiss band to perform on Thursday

MONROE - Turner Hall's 2010 Swiss Heritage Series will feature a concert by the Knabenmusik der Stadt St. Gallen at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Grand Hall.

The 70-member youth concert band and drum corp from the St. Gallen in Switzerland is on a two-week U.S. tour as part of the Blue Lake (Michigan) International Exchange Program.

In Monroe for three days and staying in private homes in the area, the young musicians will be experiencing a bit of American life in addition to performing.

Michael Wachter is the group's current conductor. The group was established in 1948. Its program will include, the themes from Hawaii Five-O and James Bond, as well as pieces for drum corps.

Admission is a free-will donation; doors open at 7 p.m. The Turner Hall of Monroe is located at 1217 17th Ave., two blocks south of the downtown Square, near the Monroe Middle School.
