Students read for rewards in Albany

ALBANY - Students at Albany Elementary School have had the opportunity to earn tickets and coupons for several events and restaurants this year, simply by reading.

From October to March, students who met their teacher's goal for reading earned a coupon for a free personal pan pizza in Pizza Hut's Book-It program. About 70 children from 4K through fifth grade have participated this year, with 29 earning free pizzas in each of the six months.

Six Flags Great America offers children from kindergarten through sixth grade a free ticket to its theme park if they read six hours through January and February. Thirty-five Albany Elementary students participated and earned a free ticket good for any day in the month of June.

Maynard G. Mallard, mascot for the Madison Mallards, came to the school Feb. 23 to kick off his Lil' Ducks Reading Program. Throughout the month of March, students had an opportunity to earn two free tickets to a Madison Mallards baseball game by reading for 10 minutes every day. Thirty-six students met that goal and earned two free tickets to the game on June 3.

In all, almost 100 Albany fans will attend the game.

Congratulations to all of the students who have participated in one or all of our reading incentive programs throughout the school year! Keep reading this summer for even greater reading achievement and success!
