Students perform in solo and ensemble contest

SOUTH WAYNE - Sixth- through 12th-grade music students from the Black Hawk School District performed in the district level Solo and Ensemble Contest on Saturday, March 1 at Darlington Middle School.

In Class C, thirds were awarded to Amber Mercado, Kaylee Winchell, Rachel Hagen, Brooklyn Allaback, Cheyenne Stewart, Alena Wheeler, Lydia Stietz and Sunny Peterson for their ensemble. Thirds were also awarded to Cayden Milz, Lucas Flanagan and Cody Blosch for their vocal trio. Cheyenne Winslow and Courtney Wilde also received thirds for their vocal duet.

Class C seconds went to Brooklyn Allaback and Lydia Stietz for their vocal duet and to Amber Mercado, Sunny Peterson and Ben Sauder for their vocal solos. Cody Blosch, Hunter Metz, Cayden Milz, Rachel Hagen, Cheyenne Stewart, Sydney Delzer, Lydia Stietz, Nathan Hull and Brody Milz received seconds for their instrumental ensembles. Ben Sauder, Cayden Milz, Nick Witcomb and Colton Klemm were awarded seconds for their instrumental solos.

Class C firsts went to Hunter Bredeson for his tuba solo and vocal duet with Brandon Schiferl. Class C firsts also went to Jacob Ubersox for his vocal solo and to Cody Blosch and Nathan Hull for their sax and trumpet solos.

Class B thirds were awarded to Colton Klemm for his vocal solo and vocal duet with Alena Wheeler. Class B thirds also went to Noah Metz and Michael Flanagan for their snare drum duet. The double trio of Meshell and Michaela Akins, Nicole Diehl, Angel Paul, Ashly Larson and Melissa Flanagan also received thirds.

Class B seconds went to Rachel Hagen, Teela Ellingson and Reesan Ruch for their vocal solos, Nathan Hull for his vocal duets with Brody Milz and Megan Stephens and the vocal trio of Jeanna Rupnow, Elizabeth Holland and Megan Stephens. Josh Meier also received a second in class B for his trumpet solo.

Class A seconds went to Casi Blosch, Brooke Moore, Jeanna Rupnow and Courtney Wilde for their vocal solos and to Ashly Larson for her alto sax solo.

Class A firsts were awarded to Tessa Cushman and Melissa Flanagan for their vocal solos and for their performance in the triple trio, including Alyse Metz, Ashly Larson, Angel Paul, Haley Tuescher, Brooke Moore, Abby Baumgartner and Megan Gobeli.

Brooke Moore is going on to state for her musical theater performance, as is Tessa Cushman for both her flute solo and classical vocal solo.
