MADISON — Every summer since 2007, students from some of the smallest high schools in Wisconsin, including Darlington High School, took part in the Morgridge Institute for Research for the Rural Summer Science Camp.
The students and their teachers spend four days in the Discovery Building on the UW-Madison campus doing hands-on activities with working scientists in fields like cancer biology, stem cell research, epigenetics, engineering and more.
The high school students engage with scientists at different career stages, from undergraduate researchers to full-time tenured research professors, and get to explore opportunities for their future.
The high school teachers that attend can harness the experience for their classrooms and get support for adapting the activities to their own needs.
Camp 2, July 23-26, included Greenwood School, Prentice High School, Parkview High School and Darlington High School.
