NEW GLARUS - The state superintendent's Advisory Council on Rural Schools, Libraries and Communities held a meeting April 12 in the New Glarus High School Library Media Center.
New Glarus District Administrator Jennifer Thayer and state Superintendent Tony Evers opened the meeting with a welcome and introductions. The business portion of the meeting included discussions about the state's biennial budget, teacher licensure, the re-authorization of the Every Student Succeeds Act and a University of Wisconsin-Madison research initiative related to rural schools.
During the lunch hour, the New Glarus School District showcased several programs, including the seventh- and eighth-grade choir, a flute trio, biomedical sciences courses, computer science courses, family and consumer science students who earned gold at the state competition and partnerships between the school and community in the Technical Education Department.
