MONROE - The congregation of St. John's United Church of Christ will confer the title of Pastor Emeritus on former senior pastor Dr. W.T. Mike Heath during the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday.
Rev. Heath served the congregation from Feb. 1, 1993, until his retirement on May 22, 2013.
A native of Ohio, Heath served churches in Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana before accepting the call from St. John's. Heath, his wife, Kay, who also served St. John's as director of Christian Education, and daughter, Sharon, will be moving to Bend, Oregon, in mid-May.
The honorary title Pastor Emeritus is used by the UCC to honor an individual whose ministry has been one of distinguished and exceptional service. It is voted upon by the congregation and also recognizes Heath's retirement from St. John's and from active ordained ministry.
A reception will be held following the service in the church's Fellowship Hall. The event is open to the public.
