MONROE - The traditional procession of palms will begin Holy Week services at 9 a.m. Sunday at St. John's United Church of Christ, 1724 14th St.

Music for the service will be provided by the Youth Choir, Sanctuary Choir and Handbell Choir.

Services will also be held at 8 a.m. at the church and 10:30 a.m. Sunday at St. Clare Friedensheim.

Sunday's services will be the first of several special services planned during the week.

Two services are planned for Maundy Thursday on April 13. A 4 p.m. worship service will be held at St. Clare Friedensheim Chapel, and a 7 p.m. service will be at the church. Communion will be served at both services.

A 7 p.m. service on Good Friday, April 14, will be held at St. John's. The service will be a worship of Tenebrae, or service of shadows, and will follow the story of Jesus' passion and crucifixion. Special music will be provided by the Sanctuary Choir.

Easter services will begin at 7 a.m. April 16 with a sunlight service at the church followed by a breakfast in Fellowship Hall. Regular worship will be held at 9 a.m. at the church and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Clare Friedensheim. Communion will be served at all three services. There will be no Faith Zone Sunday school or nursery on Easter Sunday.
