MONROE — SSM Health Monroe Hospital welcomed its first baby of 2026 on January 1. 

Arthur Duane Fjeld was born on New Year’s Day. He was 21 inches long and weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces at birth. His proud parents are Kara and Alex Fjeld of Mt. Horeb.  

“It has been exciting to have Monroe’s first baby of 2026,” Kara Fjeld said. “It will be a great story to tell Arthur.”

Arthur’s name holds a special meaning as it is a family name. He is welcomed by excited siblings, Jaxon and Nora, and grandparents Ingerid and Randy Kram, and Dan and Kay Fjeld. 

“The nursing staff has been wonderful,” Kara added.
