WIOTA - A community open house will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16, at the Wiota Lutheran Church, to celebrate the publication of letters written by Wilbur C. Berget during WW II to his family. The book is titled The Daily Life of an Ordinary American Soldier During World War II: The Letters of Wilbur C. Berget, edited by Dr. Mark D. Van Ells.

Wilbur was one of eight Lafayette County men chosen to fill the Selective Services quota leaving from Darlington on Feb. 23, 1941.

Wilbur's letters were donated to the Wisconsin Veterans Museum, Madison, in 1995 by his sister, Vivian Berget Wang of Mineral Point.

In addition Wilbur's letters "span virtually the entire length of American involvement in WW II and show an unusual breadth of wartime experiences." (page two and three of introduction).

The afternoon will be a time of family and community gathering with a short program including time for reminiscing and fellowship. The gathering is open to anyone interested in attending.
