MONROE - The Gavin Breadon Memorial Silent Auction and Art Exhibit will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Monroe outdoor pool.

The auction is being held in memory of Gavin Breadon, a 1991 graduate of Monroe High School and a 1996 graduate of Central Iowa College in Iowa. Breadon was a swimmer, football player, wrestler and track member at MHS. He attended medical school in Dublin, Ireland, but in October 2002 at the start of his senior year, he had a heart attack and died suddenly.

The proceeds from the event will provide scholarships to MHS students and for sports camps.

This year, 12 scholarships will be presented to students.

The art pieces being sold were made and donated by Breadon's brother, Eion Breadon, a glass artist and sculptor. The glassware can be viewed online on the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Gavin-Breadon-Memorial-Swim-Meet-227124827313748/.
