FREEPORT - Registration is open for the 2010 Get Fit Challenge, a 12-week program that has proven to be a fun way to incorporate healthy habits into daily life. Discounted early registration lasts through Monday, Jan. 11.

The Get Fit Challenge pits teams of five friends, family members or coworkers against other teams in a "race" to eat healthy and exercise.

Points are awarded for drinking at least 32 ounces of water, eating five servings of fruits and/or vegetables (5-A-Day), exercising every day and for participating in fun educational and motivational sessions. Prizes are awarded for the best results at weeks six and 12.

Through Jan. 11, each five-member team will pay $125 to be a part of the Get Fit Challenge. Individuals may sign up for $30. After Jan. 11 and through the final registration deadline of Wednesday, Jan. 20, teams will pay $150 and individuals, $35.

Included in the registration fee are (for each individual) two health screens, a six-week check-in, educational sessions, a T-shirt, lunch container, weekly e-mails, an online log and trial memberships to a number of area fitness facilities.

This year's Get Fit Challenge sponsors are Curves of Savanna, Lena and Freeport; Anytime Fitness; Skate Station; YMCA of Northwest Illinois; On the Move Community Fitness Center; Whole Body Studio; Fitness Lifestyles; Body Kurves; Summit Fitness; The Answer Fitness; and Stockton Co-op Fitness.
