Sign up early for 'Bulldog Challenge' in Durand

DURAND, Ill. - With only 90 spots open, Durand's 4th of July Festival organizers are urging anyone interested in participating in the "Bulldog Challenge" go-kart race to sign up early.

The Challenge, formerly called the Celebrity Race, is the main event on Sunday, July 5, the third day of the town's three-day festival. The race is open to anyone 18 years or older. New this year is a Powder Puff class for women only.

All entrants participate in practice laps, two heat races, the main event and receive a free Bulldog Challenge T-shirt. Sugar River Raceway, which presents the race, will provide a Snell approved helmet, head "sock," gloves, and racing jacket.

Entrants may supply any of their own equipment listed above if it meets race specifications. Each driver is required to furnish their own full length pants/blue jeans full coverage shoes and socks.

Entry fee is $80 before June 15, $90 afterwards. Fee covers use of the go-kart, gasoline, and furnished equipment.

Entry forms can be downloaded from the Durand Events Web site at www.durandevents.com. Included on the site is a schedule for the three day 4th of July Festival.
