MONROE - The Green County Nutrition Program announced its support for Fruits and Veggies - More Matters Month in September.

The program promotes eating a healthy diet with plenty of vegetables and fruits that can help:

• Lower the risk for heart disease and some types of cancer

• Maintain or reach a healthy weight

• Keep bodies strong and active

The program suggests various ways to fit more fruits and vegetables into diets, including:

• Keeping a bowl of fruit handy where the whole family can see it.

• Cut up fruits and veggies ahead of time so they're ready for quick, healthy snacks.

• Trying a new veggie or fruit every week.

The Green County Nutrition Program, part of the Aging and Disability Resource Center, continues to provide access to a hot noon meal for those ages 60 and over who need it. Meals served always provide one-third of the nutritional value a person needs each day and include a fruit or veggie.
