MONROE - The Behring Senior Center, 1113 10th St., has many events lined up over the next eight months. All classes and activities are for adults ages 55 and older. Pre-registration is required for all classes and programs unless otherwise noted. Sign up by calling the senior center at 608-325-3173.
The veteran's monthly breakfast will be from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Nov. 1. at the center. The suggested donation is $2. Breakfast is for all veterans and spouses ages 55 and over. The next breakfast will be Dec. 6. No registration is required.
Railroads in the Landscape is a program presented by Paul Schoenike. It will be at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 1 and will explore the landscapes, people, machines and challenges of running a railroad.
Waffle Day and a trivia game will be at noon Nov. 16 at the Monroe Public Library. The cost will include a waffle with all the toppings and the trivia game that will follow, provided by the library.
Bahama Bob will perform the sweet sound of the islands and provide fruit punch at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at the senior center.
Presenter Jack Scheckel will present "Seneca Seasons: A Farm Boy Remembers" at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 21 at the center, offering a heartwarming and nostalgic look back on life and the good old days.
Folk singer Kaia Fowler will perform at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 28 at the center. She will feature songs popular in the 1940s and 1950s along with select original songs related to life, memories and the passing of time.
The senior center also is offering classes, including classes for computers and tablets.
Facebook for Beginners will be from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 27 and 28 at the center. Participants need to know and bring their email address and password for their Facebook page. Do not bring tablets. Some computer knowledge is required.
German 101 will be offered from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for six weeks from Dec. 11 through Jan. 26 at the center.
Instructor Robin McLeish will lead three classes specifically for iPad users only. Participants must bring their own iPads. The iPad Basics class will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Jan. 11. This class is for beginners who want to learn how to use the iPad. The iPad Plus class will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Jan. 25 and will cover more advanced material for those already familiar with iPad use. The iPad Photo Class will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Feb. 15 and will cover creating pictures, albums and slide shows. All the iPad classes will be at the center.
"Architecture, History, Philosophy, and Literature" will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from Feb. 6 through March 22 at the center. One can learn all the great details on this mysterious and mind-enhancing class.
"Human Growth and Development" will be offered from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays for eight weeks from April 17 through June 7 at the center. Learn how to invigorate oneself and inspire the community.
