MONROE - Behring Senior Center has planned several activities and classes for the spring. All activities and programs are for people ages 55 and older.
An "Architecture, History, Philosophy and Literature" class will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 6 through March 22. Call 325-3173 to make a reservation. Class size will be limited to 15 people.
The veteran's monthly breakfast will be from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Feb. 7 at the center. Breakfast is for all veterans and spouses ages 55 and over. The next breakfast will be March 7.
A free "Elvis and the Superstars Performance" will be presented at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 14. This is Valentine's Day, so bring a date and enjoy the music.
The United States Air Force Shades of Blue Jazz Band will perform at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 11 at Monroe High School. The concert is free and open to the public. The event will include posting of the colors, presentation of Quilts of Valor awards to four local veterans, 11-year-old Josie Picard singing the national anthem and a Badger Honor Flight video. The performance is sponsored by the Behring Senior Center and Monroe Public Library.
An iPad photo class lead by Robin McLeish will be hold from 9 to 11 a.m. Feb. 15 at the senior center. Participants will learn to create pictures, albums and slide shows. The class size is limited to 15 people. Call the senior center at 325-3173 to sign up. There is a fee.
Baked Potato Day and a Medicare options program will be held at noon Feb. 22. The free program begins at 12:30 p.m. Understanding Medicare and knowing the options is very important. William Gross from Physicians Mutual will be on hand to answer questions.
A "Stop Medicare Fraud" seminar and a waffle lunch will be held at noon March 6. There is a fee. Learn how to prevent scam artists from stealing healthcare dollars and how to report Medicare errors.
A quilting class will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, March 6, 13, 20 and 27. The instructor will be Tereesa Schroeder. Participants will learn what to do with the leftover materials and learn two quilt patterns. There is a fee.
Speaker Mary Helen Conroy will present "Do I Matter" at 1:30 p.m. March 21. Conroy will share her experiences and thoughts about what it means to grow old. Call 325-3173 to sign up.
"Facebook for Beginners" will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. March 22 and 23. The first day will cover basic functions and the second day will focus on privacy settings and adding photos. The class limit is eight people. Call 325-3173 to sign up.
"Bath in a Bottle" will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. April 10 and will discuss natural bath and beauty products that can be made at home. There is a fee.
