MONROE - The second program in the 2010 organ mini-recital series, Midday Masterworks, is slated for 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, at the United Methodist Church of Monroe, and at 5:30 p.m. at St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe.
Titled "Terra Firma: Songs of the Earth," the program will feature organ transcriptions of works by well-known composers and settings of familiar hymns. Included is Vivaldi's "Spring" from "The Four Seasons," a pastorale by G.F. Handel from the opera, "Il pastor fido" ("The Faithful Shepherd"); and settings of "This is My Father's World," "For the Beauty of the Earth," and "All Creatures of Our God and King."
The free half-hour program is played by Deborah Krauss Smith, organist/director of music at St. John's United Church of Christ in Monroe.
