Science Day set for middle school students

JANESVILLE - Students in grades six through eight can register for University of Wiscconsin-Rock County's S.T.E.M. program, a day-long workshop featuring a series of hands-on science, technology, engineering and mathematics courses. The event will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19. Students can check in and attend a brief orientation session in the Kirk Denmark Theatre in Wells Cultural Center on the campus at 2909 Kellogg Ave.

Students may choose to attend three of the following courses, all led by professors: Make Some Music - The Sound of Science; The Mathematics of Symmetry; Renewable Energy; Treasure from Trash; Psychology Mind Games; and You Got Game - Computer Game Programming.

The $25 fee for the S.T.E.M. workshop includes lunch. A limited number of scholarships for the program funded by the Wal-Mart Foundation and J.P. Morgan are also available to students who qualify for the public school free/reduced lunch program.
