MONROE - The United Methodist Church of Monroe, 2227 4th St., will hold a community blood drive from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at the church. The June 30 blood drive had a record turn out of blood donors. Donors are needed again to help prepare for the Labor Day holiday.

As an extra incentive, Schwan's Home service will have a truckload sale with a percentage of all sales going to the American Red Cross. Anyone who purchases items from the truckload sale will be entered into a drawing for $100 worth of Schwan's products. Anyone who donates blood will be entered into a drawing for $200 worth of Schwan's products and receive a free sundae cone. Catalogs for Schwan's products are available at the Monroe Public Library or by visiting www.schwans.com.

"During the summer months, people travel and schools aren't in session," said Kathy Reffue, Co-coordinator for the Monroe community blood drive. "This makes it particularly difficult for us to collect enough blood to meet the constant needs to patients around the country."

All blood types are needed. A blood donor card or driver's license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent) and must weigh at least 110 pounds.
