DARLINGTON - Darlington Elementary School will hold an open house and school orientation Tuesday, Aug. 30.
Students in kindergarten to fourth grade are invited to visit from 4 to 6 p.m.
Staff will be available to take students new to the district on a tour of the building from 4 to 4:20 p.m. and 5:15 to 6 p.m. Class lists will be posted in respective wings, and students are invited to bring their school supplies to place in their new classrooms.
Any new students in fifth to eighth grade who have scheduling questions or would like a tour of the building are invited to stop in the guidance office at 4 p.m. A special orientation session will be held in the gymnasium from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. Following the brief presentation, students will be introduced to staff. After reviewing schedules, students will be able to locate homerooms, classrooms and lockers. Students unable to attend orientation will receive their schedules on Sept. 1.
Parents can to stop in to the office to deposit funds in students' electronic lunch account, as well as any required fees, beginning Monday, Aug. 15. Students in 4K to fourth grade are assessed a $5 book fee, and students in fifth to eighth grade are assessed a $10 book fee. Students in kindergarten to eighth grade also have the option of purchasing a $10 activity card, which admits students to all regular season athletic events for the 2011-12 school year.
Assignment books will also be available for purchase. Separate family checks for lunch, assignment books and fees are requested.
Classes in the Darlington Community School District begin at 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1. All students should report to their assigned homerooms. Buses will run normal routes and pick up city students at the swimming pool parking lot, the Darlington Municipal Building (northeast corner, on Wells Street), or at Al's Trucking.
The high school will use the opening day schedule with class meetings at the end of the day. High school students will have pictures taken on Friday, Sept. 2.
