Scenic Rivers awards $500 scholarship to Black Hawk's Place

Michael Place, son of Pat and Kelly Place, South Wayne, received a $500 scholarship from Scenic Rivers Energy Cooperative, Lancaster, at its annual meeting April 14. Place is planning to enter Loras College in the fall to study biology and is considering a career in sports medicine.

He enjoys sports, hunting and fishing. His school activities include: basketball, 4 years, varsity team member, team captain junior and senior years; 2008-2009 Six Rivers East Player of the Year; 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09, Dedication and Determiniation Award recipient; First team All-Conference selection 2008; AAU "Just a Game" team member, summer 2008; football, 1 year junior varsity, 3 years varsity, team captain senior year; second team All-Conference 2008; baseball, 2 year junior varsity; track 2 year varsity; FFA 4 year member.

His community activities include: Member of St. John's Catholic Church, South Wayne, parish mass server for 8 years; 4-H member for 9 years; Whitetails Unlimited member; Southwest Wisconsin Archers Association member; Apostolate to the Handicapped volunteer, serving the television mass and as an acolyte; Black Hawk Basketball summer camp volunteer for 4 years; animal chores on the family farm; and responsible for the mowing and upkeep of eight farms.
