MONROE - The Salvation Army in Green County has launched its annual campaign called "Share Your Blessings, Be Blessed." Its goal is to serve as a reminder of the joy that comes from helping those in need.
The Salvation Army's Christmas Campaign will include the red kettles, a holiday tradition that has served as a symbol of goodwill for more than 100 years and has grown into one of the most recognizable charitable campaigns in the United States.
Locally, the Salvation Army hopes to raise $25,000.
Donations of time are accepted as gratefully as donations of money.
Volunteer bell ringers are needed to manage the red kettle and ring the bell for two-hour sessions from Black Friday through New Year's Eve at Shopko, Pick 'n Save and Wal-Mart from 3 to 9 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 8 p.m. Sundays.
All the money stays in Green County and helps people with needs through the voucher program, disaster relief, meals on wheels, schools and other programs.
The Salvation Army is one of the organizations where 100 percent of all money donated for disaster relief goes toward disaster relief.
If interested in making a donation or being a bell ringer, contact Matthew Spoonhour at spoonhour1@gmail.com or 608-558-6978.
