MONTICELLO-Emil (Mike) and JoAnne Rufener of Monticello returned May 22 from a Vets Roll bus trip to Washington, D.C.
There was a convoy of buses transporting veterans on the four-day trip from Beloit to Washington. They were welcomed home again at the Beloit Eclipse Center.
While on the trip, veterans were able to see memorials built in honor of World War II and Korean War-era veterans. Mike Rufener is a veteran of Korea and JoAnne Rufener went as his assistant and as a charter member of the WWII memorial and contributor to its building fund in honor of her uncle who fought in that war.
The trip was sponsored by the Finnegan Family of Beloit and donations. This was the fourth year the Vet Roll program has taken veterans to Washington, Mike Rufener said.
