Retired educators meet to support public education

MONROE — Members of the Wisconsin Retired Educators’ Association recently met in five locations throughout the state. 

The following Green County Retired Educators attended in Monroe: Sue Buetzer, Nancy Anderson, Sheri Curless, Ruth Espenscheid, Barb Grabow, Karen Hogan, Shirley Leuschow, Helen Locher, Jim Munro, Terri Nipple, Carla Pederson, Jane Swiggum, Christie Strait and Melva Tschanz.

In addition to exchanging up-to-date information, the meeting also highlighted educational challenges and issues. To support Wisconsin schools, the WREA Foundation awarded $2,000 in each location. Each award recognized an innovative project at the middle school level. The school recognized at Monroe was Richland Center Middle School. This winning project, snack packs for backpacks, has a positive impact on students and the community. 

Members from the Green County Retired Educators received a facsimile check of $29,568 which represented 3,857 hours of community service.
