ROCKFORD — Renaissance Historic Exteriors was recently nominated for a Gold Circle Award by the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) for a comprehensive restoration of the Green County Courthouse in Monroe, Wisconsin.
This award recognizes superior craftsmanship in the restoration of historic buildings, with special attention paid to historically accurate roof system repair or replacement. Restoration of the Green County Courthouse required a wide scope of work, including:
● Removal of roof and installation of new slate roof comparable to the original roof
● Complete restoration of the courthouse clocktower
● Masonry repair and waterproofing
● Architectural sheet metal fabrication and installation
“This project stands as a testament to the skill, collaboration, and professionalism that defines Renaissance Historic Exteriors,” said Bob Raleigh, owner and president of Renaissance Historic Exteriors. “This is a significant honor for our company, and it reflects the incredible dedication and expertise that everyone on our team brings to our projects.”
Originally built in 1891, the Green County Courthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. By late 2021, the courthouse was in need of restoration, especially the roof system, which had been originally constructed using slate and later replaced with asphalt shingles.
Renaissance Historic Exteriors brought nearly three decades of historic restoration knowledge and skill to carefully repair original components. In addition, the project also required the fabrication of new elements to help restore the courthouse to its original glory and preserve it for generations to come.
This is not the first award Renaissance has won for its work on the Green County Courthouse. Renaissance won a 2024 North American Copper in Architecture Award for the same project. The company has also won numerous awards for similar projects, including on the international stage in 2023 with The International Federation of Roofing Trade Metal Roof Award for work on the Martin County Courthouse in Fairmont, Minnesota.
In 30+ years of history, Renaissance has garnered recognition and awards from the National Slate Association and the Slate Roofing Contractors of America for commercial and residential restorations throughout the U.S.
