MONROE - The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department is still taking registration for summer programs.
Playground Programs
The Adventure Club program is for boys and girls, ages 6 to 9 years old. The program takes place on Mondays and Wednesdays. It includes crafts, games, special entertainment and going to the pool. There are openings for both the June session, which runs June 11-27, and limited openings for the July session, which runs July 9-25. Park and Rec opened up the June Adventure Club to 5-year-olds because there are openings left. The cost is $30 for residents and $40 non-residents.
Dance Classes
Twinkle Toes Ballet is for 3- and 4-year-olds and will be held from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Mondays, June 11-Aug. 9. This is a beginning ballet class and is for new students who have never taken ballet before.
Pre-Ballet is for 5- to 6-year-olds or continuing 4-year-olds and will be held from 6:20 to 7:05 p.m. Mondays, June 11-Aug. 9. This class is for those who have taken Twinkle Toes Ballet for at least two sessions.
The Phineas and Ferb Dance Class is for ages 5 and older and will be held from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Wednesdays, June 13 -Aug. 15. The class will allow students to dance to "Roller Coaster," "Perfect Day," "Brand New Best Friend" and more.
Sundays' Summer Superstars Dance is for 6 years and older and will be held from 6 to 6:45 p.m. on Sundays, June 17-Aug. 12. Each night, the group will sing and dance to popular including "Firework," "Dynamite," "Soul Sister" and "Top of the World."
Zumbatomic classes are specially choreographed, kid-friendly routines. It is taught by the certified instructor Jolene Denure. Classes are from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Thursdays, June 14-Aug. 9. The cost is $27 for residents and $37 for non-residents.

Geocaching Treasure Hunt Training is a high tech treasure hunting game that is played by adventurers equipped with a GPS device. Participants will learn about the basics of handheld GPS navigation. An informational meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 30 in the Community Center. The class is free, but sign-up is required.
Pirate Games (Jake and the Neverland Pirates) gives participants the opportunity to learn how to talk like a pirate, learn the shipwreck shuffle, play the Hot Lava game and sing songs like the "Pirate Password" and "Yo Ho Mateys Away." The program is for boys and girls, ages 5 years and older, and will be held from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Wednesdays, June 13-Aug. 15 on the southside of the Courthouse lawn, by the ship. The cost is $27 for residents and $37 for non-residents.
Pirate and Mermaid Story time with Miss Kris will be held on Monday, June 18 and Monday, July 16. Storytime will take place next to the shipwreck on the Courthouse lawn and participants will hear about Captain Hook and treasures on Pirate Island. Times are 10 a.m. for 3- to 6-year-olds and 1:30 p.m. for kindergarten through fifth grade. The event is free, but children must be accompanied by an adult.
