DARLINGTON - Registrations are now being accepted for the General Master Gardener Program. The class will meet Tuesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 24 to April 12 at Darlington High School, or on Thursday evenings at Argyle High School. Sessions may be added as demand warrants with an additional one or two Saturday mornings for hands-on experience.

University of Wisconsin-Extension specialists and local master gardeners will help participants explore the issues involved in managing trees and shrubs, lawns, landscape plants, fruit crops and vegetables; and include discussions on insect, disease and weed management, cultivator selection, pruning, mulches, and other crop-care activities. The programs are delivered via fiber optic or taped classes and students will have an opportunity to ask questions. Participants will receive two three-ring binders featuring reference information on topics covered during the course.

In exchange for this instruction, participants are asked to volunteer a minimum of 36 hours serving as a resource to their community via their local county extension office's Master Gardener Volunteer Program. There is a cost of $110 per person for materials. The program is open to the public.

Registrations must be received by Dec. 31 at the Lafayette County Extension Office, 627 Washington St., Darlington, WI 53530. The phone number is (608) 776-4820. For more information, email Jean-Margret Beech at merrellbeech@gmail.com; or call (608) 523-4577.
